Abstract: Abstract Most aspects of Jordan’s foreign and domestic policies during the reign of King Hussein somehow are linked to relations with Israel. Jordan’s general alignment with the West during the Cold War often placed the Kingdom in a problematic position in intra-Arab politics against Israel. Moreover, the Palestinian question was both a domestic and a foreign policy issue that threatened the survival of the regime. Throughout his reign, King Hussein frequently relied on his charisma and charm in handling Jordan’s politics through his relationships with Israeli leaders—at first in secret and later publically.
