A chapter in The Palgrave Handbook of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, 2019, pp 447-461 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The challenge posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has very few comparisons in the country’s history. This chapter seeks to illustrate the impact that ISIS has had on Jordan, its security, its populace, and its role in the region by exploring the radical landscape that ISIS and other Salafi Jihadis have sought to exploit, the emergence and evolution of the group that became ISIS, ISIS’ targeting of the Kingdom since 2014, and Jordan’s response to this grave threat to its national security and stability.
