Abstract:
Abstract This chapter aims to examine the current state of civil society and its role in Bangladesh. To do this, the author, firstly focuses on the conceptual analysis and then highlights the role of the civil society in various aspects of governance in Bangladesh like democracy, socioeconomic development, rule of law and human rights, and movement for changing the society through developing consciousness among the people. In this chapter, it has been found that there are lots of challenges that have been facing civil society in Bangladesh since its independence, but their contribution to development and governance is enormous too. This is a case-oriented qualitative study and mainly based on secondary sources of information.
