Chapter Chapter 1 in Determining Sample Size and Power in Research Studies, 2020, pp 1-7 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Research is generally conducted to examine characteristics of a population. Studying entire population becomes expensive hence we examine a sample drawn from the population of interest to draw inferences. Except in census studies, all research is carried out on the basis of a sample. Sample studies, if done carefully, are more efficient than the population studies as they are economical and consume less time. However, the essential pre-requisite for statistical efficiency of any study is the representativeness of the chosen sample.
