A chapter in Facing the Era of Great Transformation, 2021, pp 191-197 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Economic circles in Western countries have criticized GDP indicators, but it seems that they don’t put as much significance on it as China does, and a city publishing its own GDP is unheard of. For example, the GDP per capita of the cities with Yale University and Harvard University is very low, but no one holds their mayors accountable for it.
