Chapter Chapter 7 in Data Analysis with SPSS for Survey-based Research, 2021, pp 105-142 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Does BMW perform better than Mercedes? Mercedes won the F1 world championship seven times from 1958 to 2020 while Ferrari took the top place 16 times. BMW best performance was being at the second place (twice!). Rather than looking at the F1 result, let’s take 30 Mercedes C-class and 30 BMW 3-series, drive them on a track and record their speeds. Based on this data, we can run a statistical test to answer our research question – which car performs better. In this chapter, we demonstrate how you can run a similar test on a dataset you get from your survey. You learn how to compare differences between two groups using t-test and also three groups using analysis of variance (ANOVA). And if Mercedes and BMW each uses different type of fuels, we teach you analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to control for the potential influence of the fuel types.
