Abstract The most authentic sources about the life and work of the mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan are the articles of Ramachandra Rao and Seshu Aiyer at the beginning of the Collected Papers by Srinivasa Ramanujan, first published in 1928, and G.H. Hardy’s Ramanujan: Twelve Lectures on subjects suggested by his life and work.
