Chapter Chapter 2 in China and ASEAN: Pivoting Trade and Shock Transmission, 2021, pp 9-22 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The second chapter analyzes the shifts in the dynamic trade relationship and interdependence between China and ASEAN to set the background of the study. Namely, it identifies some stylized facts on China’s trade flows with ASEAN from the perspectives of trade balances, trade shares, participation in global value chains (GVCs), trade in intermediate goods, product composition and product concentration. It concludes with an interpretation of the shifting position of China in the ASEAN region, and how China and the regional concerns intersect and mutually affect their trade patterns and related policies.
