Chapter Chapter 8 in Private Equity Financing in Infrastructure and Real Estate, 2023, pp 143-167 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter analyzes the staging of PE investments in the infrastructure sector. Staging refers to the process by which PE firms infuse capital into the investee company at specific points in time. Just like PE syndication, staging is a strategic and distinctive operational management used by PE investors. In this chapter, we examine two operational aspects of the staging function—first, when staging is a strategic management function employed by PE firms to monitor and evaluate the prospects of the firm, in an infrastructure setting, and second, staging as a real options decision to combat risk and information asymmetry, in infrastructure projects. Infrastructure projects, commonly designed on a project finance structure, are different from conventional corporate finance projects.
