Chapter Chapter 15 in Telling the Truth: China’s Great Leap Forward, Household Registration and the Famine Death Tally, 2021, pp 261-267 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this concluding chapter, the author reiterates that although the accuracy of official population statistics published by the National Bureau of Statistics and the Public Security authorities do not record accurately the real numbers, these inaccuracies can be teased up by adjusting the numbers by analysing the discrepancies and inconsistencies caused by factors such as massive under-registration of birth and death and rectification as well as several rounds of nationwide migration movements. Yang stresses that all adjustments must be based on historical and statistical evidence from credible sources. Yang expresses his deep concern on the number guessing game in the field and the politics of the GLF famine research.
