Chapter Chapter 3 in Future of Tourism in Asia, 2021, pp 37-49 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The popularity of a destination depends upon the offerings it makes to the tourists. The success and sustainability of a destination can be determined by analyzing the attitude of the people towards tourists and tourism. The chapter is written by citing recent example supporting the arguments of authors. Following are the take away: first, the influence of traditions, arts, languages clubbed as a culture image-making of destination; second, the attributes of a destination and their significance for some destinations; third, the psychological factors of locals towards tourism and tourists; finally, the importance of locals’ attitude towards tourist and how it creates destination image. The chapter affirms that the residents’ good attitude toward tourism and tourists will show pro-tourism behavior. The combination of positive influences from art, customs, and languages, as well as the positive attitude of the Indian people, would improve India’s image as a tourist destination. Old is gold and always will be, and it should not be sacrificed in the sake of progress and urbanization.
