Chapter 3 in The Operations of Chinese Infrastructure Multinationals in Africa, 2021, pp 41-70 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Structuring relevant literatures and mainstream of theories of international business theories, including OLI eclectic framework, transaction cost and institutional-based views and those exert on the influences of institutions on multinationals and investment from emerging and developing countries, particularly on China outward foreign direct investment, to catalogue perspectives China’s infrastructure investment in Africa into different sections and present how those existing theories and studies contribute to the original purpose of this study. On firm-level studies, it covers determinants of investment, firm specific advantages, analysis of latecomer MNEs which discuss how Chinese MNEs might perform in a South-South context; and country-level studies relates home- and host- CSAs; home-country institutional view, location choice; internalisation and motivation. Keeping in view the importance and lack of connection of relative studies, this chapter provides the basis for more focused conceptualising in the framework in the later chapters and explained where the literature contribution the study will fill.
