Abstract:
Abstract The Indian cooperative movement is a century old story which has made phenomenal contribution towards the development of rural sector in India. The key focus of the PACS is to contribute to the agricultural sector of the country. The main objective of the present study is to analyse the position of PACS in the different districts of West Bengal and rank them to understand their relative position in respect of performance. The study for the period 2008–2017 is based on secondary data which uses index to find the position of PACS. The researchers consider thirteen districts of West Bengal selected based on quantum of deposits and availability of data. The findings of the study are based on four parameters like deposits, loans, investment and membership strength of the PACS. The overall ranking of the PACS shows the dominance of the PACS of the districts of South Bengal over those in North Bengal.
