Chapter Chapter 17 in Microfinance to Combat Global Recession and Social Exclusion, 2022, pp 263-275 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract It has been suggested in the existing literatures that full participation of women is essential in achieving financial inclusiveness, there is insufficient research on factors inhibiting rural women access to micro-credit. Although there is evidence suggesting that the number of microfinance institutions has been on the increase, access to micro credit by rural women has received less empirical attention. This chapter has assessed disparity in rural women access to micro credit in Nigeria. Cross-sectional data extracted from the 2016 Nigeria General Household Survey was utilized for the study. Findings suggest that there is huge disparity among rural women access to micro credit. The policy suggestion of the finding is that there is desirous need for effective implementation of financial inclusiveness so as to bridge the gap in access to micro credit among women in rural Nigeria.
