A chapter in Covid-19 Pandemic and Economic Development, 2021, pp 1-22 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Punjab state of India is highly integrated with the global economy both in terms of exporting human capital and goods and services. This high interaction has exposed her to the COVID-19 infections. Therefore, the state government as expected has resorted to stringent measure to contain the spread of infection and fatality rate of her population. These measures impacted severely the functioning of the economy and hence not only production declined but also revenue losses were also very high. However, the state is predominantly agrarian and has played an important role to provide food security in the difficult times of COVID-19. The immediate impact of COVID-19 and long-term problems faced by the Punjab economy requires a medium and long-term strategy to rejuvenate its economy. This chapter apart from providing the context and urgency of restructuring and reviving the pre-eminence of her economy, encapsulate the various thematic chapters written by the diverse but highly specialized scholars.
