Chapter Chapter 11 in Neoliberalism or Neocollective Rural China, 2024, pp 245-257 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter challenges the assertions of liberal scholars like Qin Hui, who advocate for China’s transition towards Europeanization as a means of modernization. Qin’s narrative, aligning with the Russian China threat theory, suggests that China’s progress hinges on shedding its Asiatic characteristics and embracing European models. By dissecting historical events like the October Revolution and critiquing Qin’s categorization of political ideologies, this chapter highlights the complexities of China’s path to modernity. It argues against the blanket adoption of Western paradigms, emphasizing the need for contextualized approaches to development.
