Abstract In this introductory chapter, the authors establish the context by describing the evolution of human resource management (HRM) and by providing an overview of why a partnership between nursing and human resource management in hospital administration is critical. This chapter will also give the reader an overview of individuals who have contributed to the development of the HRM context.
