Abstract:
Abstract Tourism has established as one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. Tourists have to be provided with comforts in terms of infrastructure as well as the quality of service. In order to enhance the service quality, the tourism industry has banked heavily on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the past several decades. Almost all major sectors of tourism industry like accommodation, transportation – airlines, railways, cruise ships, restaurants, travel intermediaries, destination management companies have used various ICT applications like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), Chatbots and Facial Recognition which uses Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Livestreaming, Blockchain technologies, Mobile Apps, Wearable Technology etc. for enhancing their service quality and marketing purpose. Now there has been a global trend in using these technologies in meetings, events, conference fairs and festivals, which forms a significant part of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) segment of tourism, for providing improved performance and promotion. This paper looks into various ICT technologies applied globally in the area of events, fairs and festivals and also to review in the Indian context how effectively these technologies have been effectively used as well as exploring future possibilities.
