Abstract:
Abstract The revolution of new digital technology applications in tourism festivals, fairs, and events increase the number of visiting tourists, introduce new services and products, and strengthens local communities. However, in some cases, the negative impact of digital technology application may hinder managing the tourism festivals, fairs, and events effectively, which may affect socio-economic development. This study highlighted the contemporary socio-cultural drawbacks of digital technology application tourism festivals, fairs, and events in Asia, along with possible alternative actions to overcome. For evaluating the impact of digital technology applications in tourism festivals, fairs, and events, this study investigates the literature review method to address socio-cultural challenges of digital technology applications in tourism festivals, fairs, and events. It summarizes the key findings with theoretical and practical implications and proposes possible ways to overcome socio-cultural drawbacks through developing the benchmarks of tourism events and festivals, thus enhancing visitor engagement and tourist satisfaction.
