Chapter Chapter 2 in African Special Economic Zones, 2022, pp 35-60 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The Chapter provides a historical overview of Chinese civilisation to modern day China and how the opening-up of the country and market reform transformed the economy in a very short period of time. The introduction of Special Economic Zones as a key facilitator of development is evaluated. Case studies are presented on some of the larger Special Economic Zones in China, namely the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone with an in-depth analysis of the challenges and successes the Zone experienced during the ‘three chapters’ of the zones evolution; the Zhuhai Special Economic Zone; and the Shantou Special Economic Zone.
