Abstract: Abstract Increased digitalization is creating disruption in Indian workplaces and the way work is organized leading to increased scope for gig workers or independent workers. Due to pandemic, organizations are focusing on optimization of cost and hence are willing to accommodate more temporary workers or hire workforce on a project basis. Though reducing cost is the need of the hour, hiring the right kind of talent will prove to be a true differentiator. This paper tries to collate examples of contributions and developments of the gig economy in India. It tries to capture a glimpse of the changing landscape of India’s gig economy and the contribution of technology platforms. Earlier, the focus was on technology platforms dealing with more routine jobs like driving, delivery, mundane work, etc. However, more sophisticated digital infrastructure and deeper internet penetration have ensured the launch of more start-ups dealing with sophisticated gigs.
