Abstract: Abstract First Asian country to modernize into the industrialized world, Japan's Meiji restoration might be considered a civilizational event in its time. In 1872 daimyōs domains were reorganized into 72 prefectures under the control of state-appointed governors. The right of private land ownership was established via 1873 Land Tax Reform and land resources thus became available for industrial reallocation.
