Abstract: Abstract China has developed its modern day economic structure since 1978 after the country started its opening-up reform. This structure bears some similarities to those of developed industrial economies, but also with some striking differences. The key difference lies in how the industrial economic planning being the key macro driver is defined and implemented. Among the developed industrial economies, the US has the most consistently defined federal focus on advanced technology and education, the German public spending is the most decentralized among the industrial quartet, and both German and Japanese spending focuses more heavily on social welfare.
