Chapter Chapter 3 in Social Purpose, Commercialization, and Innovations in Microfinance, 2022, pp 47-68 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Despite commercialization being a buzzword in the microfinance literature, its concept and various features are still unclear to many due to its contextuality and complexity. Thus, this chapter aims to discuss various concepts of commercialization from the microfinance industry perspective. Subsequently, by utilizing the global microfinance data, we examined the commercialization of global microfinance industry in recent years with respect to the various definitions/features of commercialization. Our results are inconclusive, as conflicting findings were observed between the characteristics of global microfinance industry and the concept of commercialization.
