Chapter Chapter 2 in Brazil–China Relations in the 21st Century, 2022, pp 21-45 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The global commodities boom consolidated the strategic partnership between Brazil and China, but it changed the terms of the equation to an unequal and asymmetric exchange, in which Brazilians export soybeans, iron ore and oil and import manufactured goods. This chapter discusses the impact of this growing foreign trade to the bilateral relationship, addressing how it created winners (such as the agribusiness sector) and losers (industrialists who have to compete with cheap Chinese products). The text also addresses joint initiatives to strength the dialogue between Brasilia and Beijing, like the creation of the BRICS.
