Chapter Chapter 8 in Commercialisation and Innovation Strategy in Small Firms, 2022, pp 373-416 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter examines the role of strategic alliances in enabling commercialisation success for ISF. As discussed in Chap. 2 , strategic alliances are key enablers for ISFs seeking to commercialise their innovations without the resources that are needed for all the processes from prototyping to launch and business growth. Firstly, the different types of strategic alliances and partnerships are introduced. This is followed by an overview of the motivations for strategic alliances and the resource types that can be obtained from external partners at key stages of the business life cycle, as signalled in Chap. 2 . The process for identifying and selecting strategic alliance partners is discussed. How strategic alliances are managed, including the processes for negotiating contracts and mitigating risks, will also be outlined.
