Abstract: Abstract The chapter 9 analyses the political economy of gender budgeting in India and its fiscal marksmanship, using Union Government 2022 (FY) data through a gender lens. The analysis highlights that a steady fiscal consolidation can negatively affect the magnitude of gender budgeting, if it is through expenditure compression rather than tax buoyancy. The public expenditure tracking analysis is also included in the chapter based on a large-scale field survey, to understand the accountability links between gender budgeting and outcomes.
