Chapter Chapter 6 in Finite Element Method, 2022, pp 119-157 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the previous chapter, the 3-node triangular element is introduced. It is known that the 3-node triangular element is a linear element, in which the displacement within the element is a linear function of the coordinate and the strain within the element is a constant. To increase the order of the elemental displacement functions and to enable the efficient calculations, the 4-node rectangular element is introduced in this chapter. First, the shape functions for the 4-node rectangular element are given, and then the iso-parameter elements are introduced followed by the introduction of the numerical integrations.
