Chapter Chapter 8 in Finite Element Method, 2022, pp 171-194 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The elements previously discussed, i.e., the bar, the triangular and the rectangular elements, are the first order (linear) elements. The accuracy of these elements is limited. For example, the strain is constantly distributed within the linear triangular element, which limits its application in the complex nonlinear engineering problems. To solve the issue, in this chapter, the high order elements, which possess the higher accuracy, are introduced.
