Chapter Chapter 16 in History of Economic Ideas in 20 Talks, 2022, pp 117-122 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Chapter 11 showed how the French Cournot (1801–77) applied mathematics to the theory of competition. He was probably not the first one to do so, as someone tried to do a similar thing in 16th-century Spain, but we have no exact reference to offer.
