Abstract: Abstract Basic elements from different aspects of urban local finance discussed in the book are assembled. The objective is to identify general and specific policy implications and areas for future research. The work highlights challenges emerging from developments as globalization and climate change and emphasizes the relevance of designing new operational frameworks for local government fiscal operations. Three important specific issues are raised. First, despite India being a vibrant democracy, fiscal decentralization down to local-level governance have been half-hearted, lacking in emphasis on fiscal consolidation of these local bodies. Two, local government operations have been rendered borderless due to the participation of state governments, autonomous agencies, and private actors in the local domain. Three, the opportunities provided by globalization and climate change have not been taken on board to streamline local government financial management.
