Chapter Chapter 2 in Vanishing Borders of Urban Local Finance, 2022, pp 29-47 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter prepares a taxonomy of public goods with special reference to local public goods Heterogenous preferences and variable size of jurisdictions are major impediments in arriving at welfare-improving outcomes. Different forms of fiscal decentralization of public goods provision are identified and alternative voting rules are evaluated. Governance issues in relation to common pool resources and global public goods are analyzed with a view to assigning some role to local governments.
