Chapter Chapter 1 in Medical Entrepreneurship, 2023, pp 1-11 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Medicine is an agelong practice. Its importance for the continued existence of humans on Earth yesterday, today, and tomorrow cannot be contested. The rise in the cost of healthcare services, low access to quality healthcare by the poor, the emergence of disruptive health devices and technologies and the commercialization of healthcare delivery systems are issues that cannot be ignored. In view of the foregoing happenings in the global healthcare industry, this chapter provides an overview of medical entrepreneurship with a special focus on definitions, controversies, trends, prospects, and challenges in the digital age. This chapter lists the main aims and issues treated in this book. The chapter ends with a brief overview of 22 chapters written by scholars, researchers, medical doctors, entrepreneurs, innovators, pharmacists, activists, social entrepreneurs, business analysts, economists, financial economists, and other professionals.
