Chapter Chapter 13 in Medical Entrepreneurship, 2023, pp 199-211 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The book chapter emphasized consumerism in general and healthcare consumerism implementation criteria, significance, opportunities, and challenges during the pandemic by reviewing and collecting the opinions of diverse stakeholders who affected and faced complexities in the current situation. Then, in the literature review, the chapter highlighted consumerism, healthcare consumerism, and the patient care situation in India during the pandemic. The subsequent parts emphasized the implications, opportunities, and challenges identified along with the impact of healthcare consumerism on facilities provided by the healthcare industry. Finally, the last part of the book chapter stressed the state of healthcare consumerism during the pandemic in changing the attitude of all service providers. The authors identified a completely negative tendency among almost all the stakeholders regarding the implementation of healthcare consumerism. They demanded a complete overhaul of the system, considering the opinions of active participants and the modalities of the current pandemic. Thus, the authors recommended the formation of an expert committee to monitor the present status of healthcare consumerism in India. It is imperative to garner the opinions of all the stakeholders to know more about the complexities they identified before, during, and after patient care.
