Chapter 24 in The Handbook of Energy Policy, 2023, pp 683-712 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Electricity reforms are an effective way to increase energy efficiency, decrease energy intensity and energy costs per unit, and develop clean energy. This chapter uses a dataset compiled from 48 countries in 5 different regions to comprehend the influence of energy reforms on energy efficiency, thereby providing practical policy recommendations. The difference-in-difference (DID) method and data envelopment analysis (DEA) are used to examine the effects of energy reforms. According to the DEA findings, Uzbekistan is the least effective nation in terms of improving energy efficiency through reforms and is followed by Nepal, Bangladesh, and Singapore. Regarding practical implications, the study recommends green financing and prioritizing green projects to promote energy efficiency and improve green power generation in Asian countries.
