Abstract: Abstract Pandemic caused by COVID-19 has created an unprecedented panic amidst the citizens of world. The turbulences caused by the unwarranted situation were because of the mental, physical as well as economic imbalances. The sudden decisions by several governments including India to shut down the working premises both industrial and service places have simply aggravated the conditions of working class. This compelled them to vacate the places which they had been familiar (because of their earning and occupation) mostly the urban areas. Thus, the migration of workers started from the urban areas to the distance places of their homeland situated in villages. Thousands of people suddenly started moving towards the areas which they had left years ago in search of jobs and livelihood. As a result of this movement, the uncertainties and fear of declining economy keep on rising. The creation of short-term occupations to accommodate this flow of workers of different groups, otherwise known as gig economy, has been posing various challenges typically in developing economies in India. The current study focuses on understanding this trend in migration and the implications on national economy at large.
