Chapter Chapter 22 in Many Possible Worlds, 2023, pp 609-632 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract That’s the answer that Edwin Starr gave in his 1970 hit song. And many would say that it is good for worse than nothing, given all the misery, destruction and suffering that warWar brings. However, war is considerably more multifaceted when it comes to the economy. War certainly destroys much of economic value. But economic theory and evidence also shows it can contribute to economic growth once hostilities are over; and during peacetime, stimulate it continually through the “military-industrial complex”.
