Abstract: Abstract This chapter introduces Toshio Doko, president of Ishikawajima Shipyard (which later changed its name to Ishikawajima Heavy Industries (IHI)). Doko later became chairman of Toshiba and Keidanren. He harbored a sense of crisis in the 1980s, when the Japanese economy was maturing.
