Chapter 10 in Entrepreneurship in the Asia-Pacific: Case Studies, 2020, pp 191-211 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Today while there are many restaurant chains in Japan, there are not many Japanese companies with which their founders have actually expanded their business globally. One of the few examples is Chikaranomoto Holdings Co, Ltd., which runs multiple restaurants with focus on their ramen shop IPPUDO. Chikaranomoto Holdings strengthened their overseas business development and announced their policy that they aimed at having 300 domestic and 300 overseas shops by 2025. Mr. Shigemi Kawahara, the founder and chairman as well as chief executive officer, has a plan to focus on development into North America and Southeast Asia and shows eagerness with saying “I want to spread ramen from Japan to all over the world, and take the initiative to overseas deployment on the occasion of being listed on the market.” This chapter outlines Kawahara’s entrepreneurship and his history, and then clarifies the success factors.
