Abstract:
Abstract The focus of this chapter is discussions on how to improve income distribution policies. The theoretical issue of the relationship between equality and efficiency is often a point of contention, with the main focus being their relative order. A related policy issue is the resolution of the increasing income disparities, whereby, should focus first be devoted to the initial allocation, or to subsequent redistributions? Behind these disputes lies how to arrive at a judgment about the facts of China’s income distribution. Is the income gap still diverging, or has it already begun to reduce? It is only when there is an adequate consensus on these questions that we might be able to arrive at useful conclusions on extremely important topics, such as resolving the issue of income inequality.
