Abstract The establishment and perfection of distribution (generalized function) theory is an important mathematical achievement in the $$20\textrm{th}$$ 20 th century, which has a long development process. The $$\delta $$ δ -function (usually called Dirac’s delta function) was introduced by Dirac (1927) for describing a unit point mass (or charge).
