Abstract: Abstract The global age structure is transforming. Due to an increase in life expectancy and lower fertility, the proportion of older adults is rapidly growing. Globally, there were 727 million persons aged 65 and above in 2020, comprising 9.3% of the world population, and this will more than double by 2050 to 1.5 billion (16.0%) (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs 2020). This chapter argues how taking care of our old people is now crucial for our planetary well-being.
