Abstract:
Abstract Over the past 15 years, over 13 million cryptocurrencies have been created, many focused on payments or other functions within the digital financial system. Blockchains introduced the possibility of creating monetary systems that do not require banks or other financial institutions to facilitate payments (though, to be clear, removing them from the equation has introduced a host of new issues). Nonetheless, their implementation led to the idea of creating entire financial ecosystems based on blockchains.
