Chapter Chapter 2 in Samuel Doria Medina's Management Trajectory: A Clue to the Mintzberg-Ansoff-Goold Polemic, 2026, pp 9-22 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract 1. Strategic Insight Samuel Doria Medina’s (SDM) business trajectory offers a rare window into strategy-making in a relatively isolated economic context. 2. From Cement to Conglomerate The study traces SDM’s evolution from managing a single cement firm to leading a multi-sector group, revealing how strategic approaches adapt with scale. 3. Induction Versus Deduction SDM’s strategy began with intuition and inductive learning, then gradually incorporated deductive logic and theory-based planning as experience matured. 4. Leadership Shaped by Values and Traits Leadership effectiveness was tied to SDM’s personal attributes, family upbringing, and ability to foster collaborative teams. 5. Causal, but not Conclusive Though unable to establish definitive causality, this research on SDM offers strong probabilistic insights into how strategy and leadership co-evolve over time.
