Abstract: Abstract This chapter is the third analytical chapter. It examines the reception of high-end gig work in Thailand and its broader labour and socio-economic implications. It begins by outlining how the expansion of internet access and platform-based economic structures has reshaped youth employment and facilitated the rise of high-end gig work. The chapter then reviews relevant literature on cloud work and online freelancing and focuses on institutional frameworks, employment modalities, and gendered labour dynamics in Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand. It then details the methodological framework that draws on semi-structured interviews with nine high-end gig workers based in Bangkok, and explains the sampling criteria, interview protocols, and the thematic analysis approach. Findings from the interviews are organised around four themes: self-reliance under structural constraints; the intersection of discretion and regulation; the revaluation of marginalised labour; and non-linear career paths beyond institutional norms. The chapter concludes by relating these themes to broader theoretical debates. In addition, it synthesises its contributions to understanding the complex realities and evolving challenges of high-end gig work in the Global South.
