Chapter 5 in Regional Economic Development in China in 2020, 2025, pp 127-149 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract China’s urbanization is transitioning from a developmental phase to a mature stage. The premature growth of large cities has led to regional imbalances and “one-city dominance” phenomenon. This chapter analyzes China’s urban spatial characteristics and multipolar development models. There is a current need to optimize the urban system layout by restricting the scale of central cities, improving the quality of secondary cities, and strengthening inter-city linkages to promote healthy urbanization.
