A chapter in Business and Management in Asia: Opportunities and Entrepreneurship, 2026, pp 291-308 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter investigates the novel ways in which Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration shapes the Japanese entrepreneurial ecosystem by fostering new entrepreneurial opportunities. Extending the opportunity-based view of (Shane and Venkataraman, Academy of Management Review 25:217–226, 2000), this research uniquely combines the development of the entrepreneurial profile—encompassing digital skills, proactive mindset, and strategic adaptability—with the activation of social networks to explain how AI enhances opportunity recognition and exploitation. Utilizing empirical data from 128 innovative Japanese companies, the study reveals that AI adoption not only transforms individual entrepreneurial capabilities but also expands relational resources, thereby improving market knowledge acquisition. This dual influence advances the understanding of entrepreneurial dynamics in technology-intensive environments and provides actionable insights for entrepreneurs and policymakers aiming to leverage AI for sustained innovation and competitive advantage.
