A chapter in Business and Management in Asia: Opportunities and Entrepreneurship, 2026, pp 37-57 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the dynamic and culturally diverse business landscape of Asia, emotional intelligence (EI) has emerged as a critical factor in shaping effective leadership. This chapter explores the role of EI in Asian business leadership, focusing on how self-awareness, empathy and emotional regulation contribute to sustainable success. Drawing on psychological theories and real-world case studies, the chapter examines how culturally embedded values—such as collectivism, respect for hierarchy and relationship-oriented decision-making—interact with EI competencies. It highlights how emotionally intelligent leaders navigate challenges like conflict resolution, team motivation and employee well-being while fostering innovation and organizational resilience. The discussion also covers the impact of digital transformation and remote work on emotional intelligence in leadership, emphasizing strategies for developing EI skills in the evolving business environment. Ultimately, this chapter provides insights into how business leaders across Asia can harness emotional intelligence to enhance productivity, strengthen workplace relationships and drive long-term organizational success.
