Chapter Chapter 8 in Essays on Key Issues of Development in Nepal, 2026, pp 189-194 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The main objective of this chapter is to synthesize the preceding analyses, as in all chapters by providing a comprehensive overview of the main policy implications and future directions for Nepal’s economic development. This chapter highlights the necessity of integrating effective governance with fiscal, trade, and sectoral policies to foster sustainable growth and overall economic development of Nepal. This also highlights with an emphasis the critical role of channeling remittances into productive investments, strengthening the synergy between agriculture and manufacturing, and expanding the revenue base through enhanced efficiency and institutional reforms with a quality governance mechanism in the country. The chapter also discusses the importance of cultivating robust democratic institutions and promoting civil society engagement as foundational elements to improve governance quality. Considering ongoing global challenges and domestic structural constraints, this chapter outlines actionable recommendations for policymakers, focusing on long-term strategies to diversify exports, upgrade production technologies, and ensure equitable economic progress, and offers a strategic roadmap for Nepal’s transition toward a resilient, inclusive, and self-sustaining economy, grounded in evidence-based policy and responsive governance frameworks.
