Chapter Chapter 1 in Foundations of Quantitative Happiness, 2025, pp 1-8 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter introduces theoretical and empirical background to study the relationship between life satisfaction and economic growth and to elucidate the status and determinants of residents’ life satisfaction based on a quantitative perspective. In China, there have been few empirical studies on life satisfaction, and long-term life satisfaction surveys like those conducted by the Cabinet Office in Japan have not been conducted. Another important aim of this chapter is to propose the material and spiritual significance of the “$8000 phenomenon” for China’s economic policy, where the improvement of “material wealth” through economic growth has been considered a supreme proposition.
